The Shepherds Unit of Irem Temple was organized in March 1989 upon the disbanding of the First Aid Unit. Its main purpose is to transport patients to the Shriners Hospital at Philadelphia and Boston.  Family members are always welcome.  Prior to having a mini-van purchased for this unit by the Uniform Units they had to depend on rental vehicles for transport duties. As of this writing (1995) the van has logged in excess of 17,000 miles on these mercy missions. Members of the Shepherds Unit are very active in all Shrine activities, such as parades, circus sales, with our Wilkes-Barre Rainbow Assembly and maintenance of the van.
